Did Bardock really love Goku?

I remember his comrade Fasha tried to convince him to go see him before their next assignment and he still chose not to. So, in the end he starts having flashes of his son of him being lonely in the woods and him beating Freiza. I hear saiyans don't care for their kids. But in the end Bardock screams KAKAROOOT.
