Is Afghanistan an important route for a proposed natural gas line?
Its true. If you read the book Taliban by Ahmed Rashid published way back in 2000. He mentions all of this and goes over all the corporate, political and financial wars and arguments that were taking place between contractors and oil conglomerates over this. Also, Pakistan who came up with the plan, don't plan on plan on passing it onto India. Instead they plan on building another pipeline into China up north. In addition to this Pakistan also brokered another deal with Iran for another oil pipeline heading to the same port where the Afghan one is headed; to the port of Gawadar. The deal coincidentally coincided with the nuclear deal with India and the beginning/monumental increase of the brutal drone bombing campaign and terroriat attacks in Pakistan.
