Isn't it a bit hypocritical for straight people to be homophobic is this day and age...?

Despite what you say the word 'hypocritical' is inappropriate. It isn't hypocritical because they wouldn't be condemning others for something that they themselves do. It would be hypocritical for gay or bisexual people to be homophobic though, or heterosexual people to be opposed to sex.
